Another hunting season is in the books. It seems like through the season my “hunting room” and truck seems to pile up and get rather messy. The offseason is a great time to tidy up that “hunting room” and start making a checklist of what you might need for next year. I know I usually accumulate things in my pockets and this gives me a chance to clean them out and start fresh!
I know, it looks bad! When my “hunting room” gets this bad I usually start with just making a path to get into the room. Next, I’ll grab a trash can and start throwing away anything that is garbage. I usually have extra totes and will start throwing miscellaneous hunting gear into the tote to sort out later. Once you have room to work then you can start going through the gear. Rubbermaid totes of various sizes are great for organizing gear. I will put smaller items in a small tote and larger items like clothes and safety harnesses in larger totes. The great thing about the totes is that they are stackable and can help give you more room if all you have is a small “hunting room” like mine.
Once your gear is organized it will make it much easier to go through and see what is working and what isn’t. Get rid of old gear that isn’t working or is broken beyond repair. I’m guilty of holding onto things to long and it just makes more work reorganizing it later. Now is a great time to clean your guns and look over your bow equipment to make sure it is all in working order. Now is the time to make changes to your equipment if you so choose to do so. It will give you all year to get your equipment dialed in and comfortable before next season!
Ok, so now our “hunting rooms” are neat and organized, let’s try to keep them that way! That is my goal for this year! I am hoping that next year at this time I don’t have to do as much cleaning. Hopefully I will be able to just come in and go through my gear and get it sorted out for the following year. Either way, it is always fun looking through your gear seeing what you have and what you would like to have!
My 2015 Checklist:
- Organize “hunting room”
- Clean guns
- Check gear/ bow equipment
- Research new bow sights
- Look into string stop
- Look into Steady Form
- Get rid of old gear that I am not using anymore
