As I have said before, some of my best memories as a child were hunting and fishing adventures with my dad.  I am very thankful that I was raised in a family that enjoyed the outdoors.  As I look back, one of my favorite memories is one of my dads camo shirts that I would wear when I went hunting with him.  When I started hunting with him the shirt was dragging on the ground, I wore this shirt until I eventually outgrew it!  So many lessons can be learned from spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping.  As my wife and I raise our two children, I look forward to teaching them about the outdoors and all that it has to offer.  This year I was able to start sharing some of these experiences with my kids!

Last winter my dad and I were able to take my daughter, who was two at the time, ice fishing for the first time.   We had fun getting all bundled up and walking out on the ice.  We lasted a whole 30 minutes on our first ice fishing adventure before we were packing up and heading for the truck! ice fishing I was also able to take her fishing during the summer at a couple of local ponds.  We lasted a little longer on these trips!  She had a blast reeling in the line and having me throw it back out!  I was able to use this time though to teach her the importance of patience and letting the bobber sit for a little bit on the water.  We also took our kids on many trips to the local wildlife sanctuary to feed the ducks, geese and deer.  20140524_092406This is one of their favorite summertime activities.  We also took the kids on a few camping adventures with my parents!  My favorite outdoor adventure this year was taking my daughter bow hunting with me for the first time this fall.  We didnt see anything but I was able to get some cool pictures with her and most importantly we had fun together!hunt

I am looking forward to many new adventures with my kids in the upcoming year!  I am hoping to take both kids on a bow hunt with me next fall!  I look forward to sharing these experiences with everyone and hopefully give you some ideas of things to do in the outdoors with your kids!  Getting kids in the outdoors is all about creating memories and teaching them many valuable lessons that cant be learned from sitting on the couch!
